The family of Jamii

Jamii means family and it is a fitting name for this amazing community of teachers that provide so much to the slum of Langas in Eldoret.  In addition to educating these children who would not have the opportunity otherwise, they feed them a morning snack and lunch every day.  The primary concern of the staff is for the welfare of the students.

Teacher Veronica provides a loving, safe, and welcoming environment to 63 students in her classroom no bigger than a typical bedroom in the U.S.  

Here are some of Veronica's students reading the animal poem book sent by my teaching buddy Lindsay Walker from Edy Ridge Elementary in Sherwood, Oregon. thanks Lindsay!  They loved the book!  The little girl on the left is Esther.  

Here I am with Esther.  A few months ago she was hit and then run over by a car.  She was rushed to the hospital with the whole community of Jamii praying on her behalf.  They found her to be completely unharmed with no internal injuries whatsoever.  One of many miracles here at Jamii.
