First day in Kenya

Today was our day to count and pack our medical supplies, organize, prepare, and repack educational supplies, and then take the senior class from New Dawn High School to Bomas of Kenya.  Bomas is the cultural heritage center that typical elementary students go to for their yearly field trip to see replications of traditional village and tribal life and examples of traditional tribal dancing.  Our students from New Dawn, however, have never had this experience growing up and so it was a great surprise for them to finally go.

Here is Judy above, and Tim and Robyn preparing one of our VBS crafts for the Jamii students.

Lots of smiles watching the cultural dances in the Bomas auditorium.  Here is Sanna with her two students, Catherine and Evelyn.

In the middle of our visit to Bomas, the students put on their own impromptu song and dance routine for us.  They are so outgoing and friendly.  Engaging as many of us as were willing and teaching us their songs.  Tim tried teaching them American Hip Hop.  They all thought that was hilarious.  They did better learning hip hop than we did learning Kenyan dancing.

Frederick is a New Dawn alum who continues to be involved with the school, mentoring students and giving back to the community that he is grateful for.
